Frozen Time - Lifelines (2011)

Contrairement aux ambiances mélancoliques que son nom semble promettre, Frozen Time (autrefois connu sous celui, trop usité, de Dark Ages), ne braconne pas sur les terres du Doom et encore moins sur celles du Black Metal, mais traîne quelque part entre le Rock atmosphérique, l’électro et le progressif, dernière influence toutefois assez lointaine et diffue.

Une poignée de démos et quelques changements de line-up (dont le plus significatif fut l’enrôlement d’une chanteuse en 2005) plus tard, les Nordistes parviennent enfin à la case premier album. S’il a pour lui un certain nombre de qualités sur lesquelles nous insisterons plus loin, Lifelines démarre pourtant assez mal, faisant craindre un supplice long de douze haltes, pour la suite. En effet, avec cette entame trop synthétique et surtout, surtout, ce chant féminin en Français bien peu agréable, "Elle danse" se révèle être une porte d’entrée que l’on n’a pas vraiment envie de franchir.

En dépit de ses maladresses ("In Your Letter", plutôt réussi au demeurant), on préfère lorsque Marie recourt à l’anglais, ce qu’elle fait en réalité sur la très grande majorité des compositions parsemant cette carte de visite, seul "L’homme vorace" ne résonnant pas au son de la langue de Shakespeare. De fait, dès "My Imagination", l’opinion tout d’abord mitigée imposée par le titre d’ouverture, commence à s’estomper et l’album déroulant tranquillement un menu plein de fraicheur, on finit son écoute le sourire aux lèvres. Dans ses meilleurs moments ("A Virtual World"), la jeune femme n’est pas si éloignée que cela de la voix d'Eilera, formation avec laquelle, par ailleurs, Frozen Time partage certaines références, notamment ces teintes électro (sur "My Inner Turmoil" par exemple).

Et s’il a encore un long chemin à parcourir avant de pouvoir tutoyer un équivalent succès, souffrant encore trop d’arrangements qui manquent de souffle, le groupe n’est pas sans qualité(s), parmi lesquelles nous pouvons citer un métier incontestable que trahit plus d’une décennie d’effort, ainsi qu’une belle liberté de touches qui lui permet d’être difficilement traçable, touchant à de nombreux genres sans vraiment être inféodé à un seul d’entre eux.

A l’arrivée, Frozen Time signe un premier album parfois maladroit, toujours agréable néanmoins, mais souffrant d’un son trop sec et d’un chant à la prononciation hésitante malgré le charme de son interprète. Un groupe à suivre toutefois... 6.5/10 (Music Waves)

If it has a number of qualities that we insist further, however Lifelines starts poorly, raising fears of a long ordeal of twelve stops for more. In fact, begins with this too synthetic and especially, especially, the female vocals in French although unpleasant, "The Dance" is proving to be a door that we do not really want to cross.

Despite his clumsiness ("In Your Letter", rather successfully, moreover), is preferred when Mary uses English, it is actually the vast majority of compositions dotting the card, only " The man greedy "does not resonate with the sound of the language of Shakespeare. In fact, from "My Imagination", the first opinion mixed imposed by the opening track, begins to fade and the album slowly down a menu full of freshness, you end up listening with a smile . In its best moments ("A Virtual World"), the young woman is not so far that the voice of Eilera, training with which, moreover, Frozen Time shares some references, including the electronic tones (on " My Inner Turmoil "for example).

And if he still has a long way to go before tu equivalent success with still too many arrangements that lack of breath, the group is not without qualities (s), among which we can mention a trade undeniable that betrays more than a decade of effort and a great freedom of keys that allows it to be easily traceable across many genres without really being beholden to one of them.

Upon arrival, Frozen Time sign first album sometimes awkward, always nice, however, but with a sound too dry and a song to the pronunciation hesitant despite the charm of its interpreter. A group to follow, however ... 6.5/10
