Et non Celebration : For The Love Of Satan n'est pas le nouvel album des Américains dont on rappelle que le dernier méfait, By The Hands Of The Devil, vient à peine de sortir du four (crématoire). Malgré une vigueur retrouvée après plusieurs années d'impuissance commerciale, l'érection a ses limites et cette nouvelle sortie n'est en fait qu'une espèce de compilation voyant le groupe ré-enregistrer de vieux titres à la sauce 2011 et surtout avec le revenant Leviathan Thisiren alias Harry Conklin, chanteur historique ayant gravé Metal From Hell (1986) et dans la foulée, le EP Midnight Wind et dont By The Hand Of The Devil a concrétisé le retour.
Renounant avec un dynamisme et une envie de jouer, de se faire plaisir, qui l'avait un peu déserté, Satan's Host bat donc le fer tant qu'il est chaud, trop heureux de pouvoir de nouveau compter sur la puissance haut perchée de Conklin, certainement l'un des meilleurs chanteurS du circuit dans la catégorie "je me suis coincé les couilles dans la braguette", qui propulse vers les aïgues et des sommets des morceaux sans la voix duquel ils seraient presque banals. Encadrées par deux nouvelles compositions dans la droite lignée de celles émaillant le dernier album, ces relectures picorent à travers l'ensemble de la discographie du groupe.
De fait, plus que les modernisations des morceaux déjà animés à l'origine par l'ex Jag Panzer, l'intérêt de cette célébration réside davantage dans les reprises du répertoire plus typé Black Metal de l'ère L.C.F Elixir. Entendre "Nightside Of Eden" ou "H.E.L.L." dans un registre plus Heavy Metal est un vrai plaisir, cette peau plus épique et traditionnelle convenant presque mieux aux Américains que cet Art Noir faussement maléfique, témoin les réussites que sont "Satanic Grimoire" ou "Witches Return" qui conjuguent pour le meilleur d'Iron Maiden et Iced Earth. Certains ne manqueront sans doute pas de se pincer le nez à l'écoute de ce Power Metal satanique (sic) typique des aciéries américaines. Ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils ratent, voilà tout...
Ne reste plus qu'à voir si Satan's Host saura conserver une mouture qui, la première fois, a rapidement implosé... Pour ceux - la majorité ? - qui le découvriraient aujourd'hui, Celebration : For The Love Of Satan est une porte d'entrée idéale pour goûter un groupe qui jouit cependant d'un statut culte un brin mensonger, vendu par le label jamais avare de ce genre d'étiquette pour appâter le chaland. 7/10 (La Horde Noire)
