Ahma - Slothful & Vile (2007)

Dans un monde parfait, Ahma n'aurait jamais dû croiser ma route. Non pas que les Finlandais soient mauvais dans leur partie mais leur espèce Heavy Metal moderne et survitaminé reste loin de ce vers quoi tendent de plus en plus mes goûts. 

Pourtant, grâce à Firebox qui a gentilement glissé un de leurs nombreux EP au milieu d'une (pourtant) maigre commande (le Tunes Of Despair, pour ceux qu'intéressent mes frénétiques achats). Curieux de nature, Slothful & Vile s'est donc retrouvé très vite avalé par la platine CD trônant en face de moi. Et c'est finalement une honnête surprise que les enceintes ont déversé. 

Frais et rythmé, Ahma louche sans doute un peu trop vers un Metal alternatif à l'énergie presque Punk, mais c'est bien fait, comme souvent avec les groupes en provenance du pays des mille lacs. Ramassé et réhaussé d'une lointaine voix féminine que l'on souhaiterait entendre davantage, quitte à museler un chanteur lead sans grande imagination, "Serpent Tongue" séduit d'entrée de jeu. Avec leurs guitares aux pattes bien lourdes, les titre suivants ont tous quelque chose à offrir, là un solo très mélodique ("Knockout In 1st"), ici des accords plus ambiancés ("Human Torches", "Malthusian", au chant narratif et aux riffs obsédants), plus loin un roulleau compresseur Thrash ("Dyed Red"). 

Sympathique donc mais Ahma n'est pas (encore) Audrey Horne (le sera-t-il jamais d'ailleurs ?) et Slothful & Vile fait partie de ces rondelles sur laquelle on pose une oreille ou deux avant de les ranger dans l'étagère ad hoc pour ne plus les ressortir... Sympathique certes mais bien vite oubliable aussi ! 6/10

In a perfect world, Ahma should never have crossed my path. Not that the Finns are bad in their part but their species and modern supercharged Heavy Metal remains far from what toward which more and more.

Yet, thanks to Firebox gentilement who slipped one of their many EP in the middle of a (yet) lean control (the Tunes Of Despair, for those interested in my frantic purchases). Curious by nature, slothful & Vile so it ended quickly swallowed by the CD player enthroned in front of me. And it is finally an honest surprise that the speakers have spilled.

Fresh and rhythmic, Ahma ladle probably a little too much toward one alternative Metal Punk almost to energy, but it's well done, as often with groups from the country of thousand lakes. Picked up and embellished with a distant female voice that we would like to hear more, even muzzle a lead singer without much imagination, "Serpent Tongue" seduced from the outset with their guitars with very heavy legs, as the following all have something to offer, then a very melodic solo ("in 1st Knockout"), here more atmospheres agreements ("Human Torch", "Malthusian", the narrative song and haunting riffs), a further compressor Roulleau Thrash ("Dyed Red").

So friendly but Ahma is not (yet) Audrey Horne (will be there forever anyway?) And slothful & Vile is one of those rings on which to place an ear or two before storing in the ad hoc shelf never to see them out ... Certainly sympathetic but soon forgettable too! 6/10
